Malachite green dye removal using ceramsite-supported nanoscale zero-valent iron in a fixed-bed reactor

Abstract In this study, we prepared and characterized ceramsite-supported nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI). Malachite green (MG) dye removal from aqueous solutions using a fixed-bed reactor packed with the above composite material was investigated. This research carried out according to prophase study of preparation characterization ceramsite for water treatment sintering method solid wastes. The results indicated that could be loaded nZVI, mainly because its magnetic property. With decrease in initial concentration influent flow rate or increase reaction temperature, breakthrough curve became less steep. Meanwhile, saturation points gradually shifted rightward. When 10 mg·L −1 , temperature 25°C, 5 mL·min presented an irregular “S” shape, times were 230 515 h, respectively. MG dye-containing wastewater nZVI by employing Yoon-Nelson kinetic model superior those Thomas Adams-Bohart models, R 2 > 0.96.
